ASC-200 WYVERN UCAV

The Wyvern UCAV is an older UNEF design that was pressed into service to fill the gap left by shortages of Thresher UCAV's. The Thresher is a beast, difficult to repair, costly to produce, and at times difficult to operate. The Thresher makes up for these difficulties by being capable of engaging targets anywhere within the Orbit of Luna as well as being fully atmospheric. The versatility of the Thresher and the nature of the war, have left it off the frontlines however. In it's place, a new/old UCAV was needed to take up the role of aerial & orbital supremacy.

The Wyvern serves that role admirably and is present in far greater numbers than the Thresher. When large independent defense technology corporations came into prominence, such as Velos, they began developing and selling advanced combat assets at low discount prices. This leveled the playing field somewhat and while at the time, great concern was had over previously lower level technologically developed forces suddenly coming into possession of of highly advanced tech, the concern was put aside when war with the Alliance finally erupted.

Because the Wyvern was easy to produce, operate, and maintain, and used an intuitive training system, it became one of the most prolific design Velos had ever produced. When the war started and the equipment and logistics upgrade program began, hundred of Wyvern UCAV's were standing ready to be updated with the latest tech and weapon upgrades. Within months, The United Nations Expeditionary Forces transformed from a limited role force, to the dominant air power on Earth.



This is a somewhat older design so I figured a similar backstory seemed fitting. I'm not sure how prominent these will actually be in the story, but I know they'll make at least a few appearances early on.
